How did this project start?
I registered on CloudyNights.com (a great place to hang out) and found a thread for scope buddies. I put in my location and forgot all about it. A month later I visited that thread again and saw some users requesting sorting by State & City. I thought that was a good idea and this site was born. This is an ongoing project and I'll keep updating the site. Please send all feedback to Feedback@ScopeBuddies.com. I want both positive and negative feedback so I can update the site accordingly.
Some of the future updates I am thinking of:
- Email alerts for new scope buddies near you
- Include dates for those making short trips to another city or a dark site
- Mark a dark site near you
- Search by Distance/Zip code
- Integration with Google Maps
- Integration with CloudyNights.com
- Send an email to Feedback@ScopeBuddies.com to suggest a new feature
How does the site work?
3/07/09: Version 1.2 Beta - Updates:
- Fixed a few minor bugs reported by users - Thank you everyone for your feedback.
- A user can now create multiple locations
- Added the ability to set dates for each location (for those who are travelling to another city)
- Added a field for Local Astronomy Club Name
- Changed the look & feel of the site a little bit
2/22/09: Version 0.9 Beta
- The site has 2 basic functions - Marking your location and and Searching for a buddy
- To Mark your Location, click on the "Mark my Location" link above and follow the easy steps.
- To Search for a buddy, click on the "Search for a Scope Buddy" link above for follow the easy steps. To contact someone, you'll need to be signed in.
